Touching a MountainKatherina Heil & Rik Möhlmann
With ‘Touching a Mountain’ 2020, Katherina Heil and Rik Möhlmann explore the perception and interpretation of our cosmos, ancient mythologies and their underlying associations through sound and imagery. The relationships between isolated experiences, time and cosmic proportionality, as well as collected imagery and soundscapes are central in this piece. As it unfolds, the video tells a story about interpretations and imaginations of the world, scale, space and time.
Katherina Heil is a german artist based in The Hague, the Netherlands. In her work, the human body is seen as the perceptual center between micro- and macrocosm. She explores relations of the subjective and objective experience of the universe by repeatedly drawing new connections and interrelations between things, like language, matter, and scientific concepts. Transitioning in aesthetics and materials results in drawings, video pieces, sculptures, installations, and poems. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at The Orchid and The Wasp in Amsterdam, A-DASH project space in Athens, Nida Art Colony in Nida, and De Fabriek in Eindhoven, as well as in group exhibitions, including spaces such as Willem Twee Kunstruimte, Boetzelaer|Nispen Amsterdam, VITRINE Basel, Exgirlfriend Berlin. She is part of the artist initiative Billytown in the center of The Hague.
Rik Möhlmann is a dutch artist who is based in The Hague. He is part of Billytown, an artist-run-initiative located in the city center. In his work, he concentrates on digital painting and abstract musical composition. Computer graphics and synthetic sound are explored with a direct and spontaneous approach, rooted in a fascination for both the aesthetics and metaphysics surrounding digital toolsets and interfaces. Before his transition to The Hague, Rik has been working interdisciplinary for more than 10 years in Groningen, where he was part of different collectives. He was a co-founder of De Gym, a former project space, residency, and nightclub for contemporary culture in the center of Groningen. He has also been performing and releasing music under his moniker Piyojo.
This collaboration was developed during a work period in Athens in 2019 and was kindly supported by the Mondriaan Fonds.

About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music. Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
