No View, The Radio XXIV
Sarah Davachi
Western Front

Sarah Davachi is a Canadian pianist and organist employing classical aesthetics and techniques to create emotionally rich soundscapes and compositions. Her affinity for the capability of the instruments grants her a diverse pallet on very minimal instrumentation, and the pacing of the pieces often being slow and steady lets the listener in on these subtleties, triggering an array of sonic and emotional experiences. The piece ‘Western Front (excerpt)’ is a perfect example of her ambient work, through which the music takes on almost sculptural properties, influencing the perception of space and, due to it’s timelessness and weight, gives the impression it would remain in the space even after the audience’s departure. This feeling is heightened further when combined with the images of the sculptures remaining in place, as they always will, even with the space empty, the lights turned off and the doors locked.

About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music. Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
