Ejderkan A Tastekin Installation

Open: zaterdag 10.01.2009 t/m zaterdag 07.02.2008
Opening: Zaterdag 10.01.2008, 16.00 - 18:00 uur

Beeldend kunstenaar Ejderkan A Tastekin (Istanbul, 1978) herschept fysieke ruimtes. Net als o.a.

West is proud to present the work of 2 young, talented artists. We are happy to invite you to Groenewegje 136 in Den Haag for the first opening in the new year on Saturday 10 January as from 16.00 H.

Oskar de Kiefte (Renkum, 1962) finds functionality more important than form. In his best known work the Converted Porsche the outside coach-work of a Porsche 924 has been placed backwards on the chassis, with which he reduces the air resistance with 10%. Also he has composed a car based on a reversed boat. The idea that people sometimes spend more money on the lock than on the bicycle itself has motivated De Kiefte to unite lock and bicycle in one multipurpose object. De Kiefte seems, in his work, in search of contingency and funny inventions but is, in its frequently long-term projects, in a very practical and cognitive manner operative as contemporary artist. For him, total simplicity, transparency and the pure idea are the guiding principles. During the exhibition we see 4 bikes that have each another starting-point (speed, comfort, design). Accompanying them is a short (demonstration) film.

Ejderkan A Tastekin (Istanbul, 1978) recreates physical spaces. He questions the reality that we see. Does it correspond with how we experience it? That is the starting-point of his installations. In spaces chosen by the artist elements of the existing surroundings are used, among other things, to change the perspective. Moreover Tastekin uses light and already present objects (including the visitor) for his new form of visualisation. Just like, for instance, Josef Albers he is interested in the mental impact, the aesthetic experience which is called upon by the interaction of colours placed against each other. With the transformation, the space will be experienced differently and the perception reinforced. In West he will rebuild the main space of the gallery by a large construction of strategically placed white partitions. The present entrances, chimneys and windows are incorporated in the work. By using contrasting colours the space will give an unreal impression. He will also show some smaller (± 1 x 1.5 meter) works on the wall.
