Kurws are an unconventional rock trio from Wrocław, Poland, creating abrasive, rhythmic explosions on very minimal instrumentation, inspired by punk DIY attitudes and aesthetics.
Although their music is instrumental (no voice/lyrics), one senses a social, or even political stance in their playing, be that due to it's immediacy and it's intensity, the strict militancy necessary to execute it, or maybe even that it might serve as a reaction of absurdity to the tense social and political strife of current day Poland, the same way Dada-ism stood for a rejection of the logic that lead to the first world war.
Whatever the reasons, all three are truly creative musicians, each bringing a very bold and unique vocabulary to their musical statements. For this series they have recorded themselves rehearsing two new pieces in their home studio.
About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music.
Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
