Tara Clerkin Trio are a Bristol based experimental act consisting of Tara Clerkin, Patrick Benjamin and Sunny-Joe Paradiso. Their recorded work is not dependent on set instrumentation, but rather a mix of anything that might do justice to the piece, incorporating sampling, the calm yet passionate voice of Tara, and any instruments they feel the need to incorporate, all of which are meticulously processed and edited, blending the possible with impossible. This mix of sound sources and methods results in a rich musical assemblage referencing trip hop, jazz, funk, and ambience. For the series, they have created a video adaptation of their recent self titled debut. The video work is representative of their musical approach, editing being a key part of their compositional process, as is their freedom towards incorporating found material in to their work.
Video by TCT and Felix Drake.
About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music.
Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
